AI in the loop. Human at the wheel.
I'm Sonal. I'm a content designer at OKX, working on AI-powered financial products for global, regulated markets. I build language systems and product experiences that help people understand, trust, and act on complex money decisions.
01 / How I got here
From words on a page to systems that ship.
I started in creative writing. My MFA taught me how language carries weight: how a sentence can build trust or quietly break it.
That belief led me into content design, and eventually into fintech. At OKX, I work on products people don't always understand, in markets that don't always behave the same way. Savings in Turkey. Referrals in Brazil. Onboarding for a new stablecoin in the US.
Now I work at the intersection of content, AI, localization, and regulated experience. I use AI to move faster. I use judgment to decide what's worth slowing down for.
02 / How I work with AI
Six places AI helps. Six places I take the call.
With product
- What AI does
- Prototypes concepts, builds clickable flows, pressure-tests ideas before engineering invests.
- What I bring
- Strategic framing, real user understanding, narrative pacing.
With engineering
- What AI does
- Reads components, maps front-end structure, suggests cleaner string implementation.
- What I bring
- Intent behind every word, decisions about what ships where.
With design
- What AI does
- Drafts variants in context, stress-tests hierarchy, explores interaction patterns.
- What I bring
- Voice consistency, user logic, the connective tissue between screens.
With legal & compliance
- What AI does
- Pre-flights content for risk, regulatory tone, and disclosure clarity.
- What I bring
- Final calls on what's safe to say, what needs softening, what protects the user.
With local markets
- What AI does
- Surfaces cultural, behavioral, and regulatory nuance for new markets.
- What I bring
- Editorial judgment, lived market context, decisions about what doesn't translate.
With localization
- What AI does
- Generates source content ready for translation: glossaries, ICU strings, length budgets.
- What I bring
- Source clarity, terminology systems, the upstream decisions that protect every locale.
03 / Where speed ends and judgment begins
AI moves fast. Judgment ships product.
▶ Fast lane
Volume, variants, first passes.
- First-pass drafts and variants
- Tone, length, and terminology audits
- Edge cases and error states
- Pseudo-localization and length checks
- Competitive research and synthesis
- Prototype scaffolding
◆ Slow lane
The calls that protect the user.
- Strategy, narrative, and product framing
- Trust, risk, and disclosure decisions
- Voice in sensitive product moments
- What we choose not to say
- Legal and compliance judgment
- Local market nuance
- The final user experience
04 / Operating principles
Six beliefs my work keeps proving back.
Clarity builds trust.
In fintech, every word either carries trust or quietly breaks it.
Localization starts at the source.
A clean source string is the shortest path to a clean Portuguese, Turkish, or Spanish one.
Compliance is a design constraint, not a coat of paint.
Disclosures designed late create friction. Designed early, they create clarity.
AI accelerates the work. Judgment protects the user.
I let AI do the volume. I make the calls that matter.
Content is product infrastructure.
Naming, hierarchy, and structure are the pipes a product runs on.
The clearest fix is usually upstream.
The best copy is often a product decision in disguise.
05 / Proof through product impact
Selected outcomes where content was the lever.
USDG Earn
Trust at first depositDesigned onboarding content that made a new stablecoin yield product feel safe to try. Reframed risk language and rewards copy around clarity instead of hype.
OKX Savings, Turkey
Local language, local behaviorAdapted savings content for a high-inflation market where overnight interest was already a daily habit. The copy met users where their money instincts already were.
OKX Card referral, Brazil
Cultural cues, simplifiedSimplified referral content for a market with specific cues around money and trust. Stripped jargon, surfaced the benefit, made the share moment feel personal.
Navigation redesign
Faster to the first tradeRestructured how new users find their first action, with copy and IA designed to remove decision points instead of adding reassurance to them.
06 / Beyond the work
A few things about the rest of me.
I live in San Francisco with Shadow, my husky mix. I founded Chester's Village, a community for dog owners, after losing my late dog Chester. I read, I write, and I dance.
Most of my work, paid and unpaid, is about turning lived experience into structure: language, community, and the small systems that help people feel held.
Building something complex?
I help teams turn hard systems into clear, trusted experiences.
